🔵 Enzo Maresca reaffirmed his faith in Joao Pedro after the striker ended an eight-game goal drought with a match-winning strike in Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca was full of praise for Joao Pedro, who netted the decisive goal in the 34th minute at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, securing a vital win for the Blues in their push for a top-four finish. The Brazilian forward had been under scrutiny after a prolonged dry spell and limited training due to injury concerns.
> “Joao has never been a problem,” Maresca told reporters. “The issue is that he’s not training every day because of some problems we’re managing. But I’ve never doubted him. He’s a good player and he’s going to score goals”.
Pedro’s goal came after Moises Caicedo intercepted a loose pass and set up the striker, who calmly slotted home. Maresca also credited Caicedo’s performance, calling him “top” and “one of the best defensive midfielders in the league”.
The win was Chelsea’s second consecutive clean sheet and marked a turning point for Pedro, who had struggled to find form since returning from injury. Maresca emphasized that the return of Liam Delap, who was suspended for the match, would further strengthen Chelsea’s attacking options.
“Even when Joao didn’t score, he had good games. Against Liverpool, he was very good. Now we have Liam back, which gives us more flexibility up front”.
Chelsea now sit fifth in the Premier League table, just two points behind Manchester United. The victory over Spurs not only boosted morale but also showcased the squad’s depth and resilience.
