Cristian Romero is officially back for Tottenham Hotspur’s high-stakes Premier League clash against Chelsea this Saturday, boosting Spurs’ defensive options at a crucial moment.
Tottenham manager Thomas Frank confirmed in Friday’s press conference that Romero has recovered from an adductor strain and is available for selection. The Argentine centre-back, who also captains the side, has missed Spurs’ last four matches after picking up the injury during warm-ups against Aston Villa on October 19.
Joining Romero in the return list are Destiny Udogie and Wilson Odobert, both of whom have also shaken off their respective injuries. Udogie had been sidelined since early October with a knee issue, while Odobert missed the midweek Carabao Cup tie due to a side strain.
Frank was cautious about confirming starting roles, stating:
> “I will get a lot of information from the medical and performance staff, but in the end, it’s always on me. If a player breaks down, it’s on me.”
Spurs have struggled recently, with just one win in their last five matches and only one point from their last three home games. The return of Romero, known for his aggressive defending and leadership, could be pivotal in turning their form around.
Frank also emphasized the importance of fan support for the upcoming match:
> “Home game against Chelsea under the floodlights is going to be unique and special. I’m really looking forward to it. We need the fans behind us.”
With Chelsea also battling inconsistency, Saturday’s match promises to be a fiery London derby with both teams desperate for momentum.
