Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca was sent off in dramatic fashion after sprinting down the touchline to celebrate Estevao Willian’s 95th-minute winner against Liverpool. But the Italian coach has no regrets.
“It was instinctive. But I think it was worth it,” Maresca said at the Festival dello Sport.
The 2–1 win over the reigning Premier League champions was Chelsea’s first last-minute home victory under Maresca, and emotions ran high.
🔵 Passion Over Protocol
Maresca had already received a yellow card earlier in the match. His second came after joining the players in a euphoric celebration near the corner flag.
“Football is passion. I didn’t have time to think,” he said.
🏆 Chelsea’s Turning Point?
The win lifted Chelsea to seventh in the table and eased pressure on Maresca, who had faced criticism after a rocky start to the season.
He’ll miss the next match against Nottingham Forest due to suspension, but fans are rallying behind their passionate manager.
