William Saliba Says France Do Not Fear Argentina or Spain Ahead of World Cup

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup just eight months away, France defender William Saliba has made headlines by boldly declaring that Les Bleus “do not fear” reigning champions Argentina or European titleholders Spain. Speaking ahead of France’s qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Iceland, Saliba’s comments reflect a confident mindset within Didier Deschamps’ squad.

🗣️ Saliba’s Defiant Message

“Spain and Argentina have won the last two major competitions, that’s true. But they don’t scare us. I hope we qualify and get our revenge at the World Cup,” Saliba told reporters.

France lost to Argentina in the dramatic 2022 World Cup final and were knocked out by Spain in the Euro 2024 semi-finals. But Saliba insists the team is focused on winning, not revenge.

“We’re not going to the World Cup for revenge. We just want to win. But if we come up against them, yes, we’ll definitely want to get our payback,” he added.

🧠 Tactical Confidence

Saliba’s confidence stems from France’s depth and tactical evolution. With Kylian Mbappé, Aurélien Tchouaméni, and Eduardo Camavinga forming a dynamic spine, Deschamps has options across the pitch. Saliba himself has become a key figure, earning his 29th cap after recovering from injury.

France currently lead Group D with six points from two matches and could seal qualification with wins over Azerbaijan and Iceland.
