Rodrygo Opens Up on Madrid Exit Talk and Reveals Chat with Alonso

Real Madrid winger Rodrygo has broken his silence on summer exit rumors, revealing that he never intended to leave the club despite interest from Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, and PSG. In a candid interview with AS, the Brazilian also shared details of his conversation with manager Xabi Alonso, who asked him to adapt to new roles within the team.

⚪ Summer of Speculation

Rodrygo was widely tipped to be the odd man out following the arrival of Franco Mastantuono and the continued dominance of Vinícius Júnior on the left wing. Reports suggested that Alonso preferred Mastantuono on the right and viewed Rodrygo as expendable.

But the 24-year-old insists the rumors were unfounded.

“Every summer, the same thing happens. I’m linked to every club. But I’ve always told Madrid I want to stay,” Rodrygo said. “If one day they tell me to find a new team, I’ll do it. But that hasn’t happened.”

Rodrygo has won two Champions League titles with Madrid and says he’s hungry for more. “I want more European Cups in this shirt,” he added.

🧠 Alonso’s Tactical Request

Rodrygo also revealed a key conversation with Alonso, who asked him to play in multiple positions—including on the right and as a false nine.

“He said, ‘I know you like playing on the left, but I’ll need you elsewhere.’ I told him, ‘Okay, mister, I’m here to help.’”

While Rodrygo prefers the left wing, he’s embraced the challenge. “I’m getting better and better. I feel happy. I want to play more, but I’m evolving.”

Alonso has primarily used Rodrygo on the left this season, and the winger has responded with improved performances, including two assists in the Champions League.

🇧🇷 Brazil Call-Up and World Cup Dreams

After being rested during the first international break, Rodrygo has been recalled by Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti for upcoming friendlies against South Korea and Japan. He hopes to play a key role in Brazil’s 2026 World Cup campaign.

“It’s a dream to win the World Cup. I’ve won with Madrid, but I want to win with Brazil too.”

Rodrygo’s versatility and maturity have made him a valuable asset for both club and country. Despite the noise, he remains focused.

“People speculated because I kept quiet. But I knew what I was going to do this season.”

🏁 What’s Next?

Rodrygo is expected to start in Madrid’s next LaLiga fixture against Girona, especially with Mastantuono nursing a minor injury. With Mbappé and Vinícius in top form, Rodrygo’s adaptability could be the key to Alonso’s tactical balance.
