Kudus the Hero as Ghana Qualify for Fifth-Ever World Cup with Narrow Win Over Comoros

In a packed Accra Sports Stadium roaring with 40,000 fans, Ghana secured their ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a tense 1–0 victory over Comoros. The hero of the night? Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mohammed Kudus, whose 47th-minute strike sealed the Black Stars’ fifth appearance on football’s grandest stage.

The win was more than just a qualification—it was redemption. Comoros had stunned Ghana in their last two meetings, including a shock elimination at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations. But this time, Kudus ensured history wouldn’t repeat itself.

“We owed this to our fans. We owed this to ourselves,” Kudus said post-match.

⚽ Kudus Delivers When It Matters

After a sluggish first half where Ghana dominated possession but lacked cutting edge, Kudus pounced on a low cross from Thomas Partey following a goalmouth scramble. His tap-in from close range sent the stadium into a frenzy.

It was Kudus’ second goal of the qualifying campaign, and arguably his most important in a Ghana shirt.

🇬🇭 Ghana’s Road to Redemption

Ghana topped Group I with 25 points from 10 matches, ahead of Madagascar and Mali. The qualification comes after a disastrous AFCON campaign where Ghana failed to win a single match.

Coach Otto Addo, under immense pressure earlier this year, praised his team’s maturity and unity.

“We’ve come together as a team. We’ve grown. This is just the beginning,” Addo said.

🌍 Looking Ahead to 2026

With the World Cup expanding to 48 teams and hosted across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, Ghana joins Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia as Africa’s confirmed representatives.

The Black Stars will learn their group-stage opponents in December, but for now, the nation celebrates.
