Huijsen Forced to Pull Out of Spain Squad for October Qualifiers

Real Madrid defender Dean Huijsen has withdrawn from Spain’s squad for the October World Cup qualifiers due to a calf injury, dealing a blow to Luis de la Fuente’s plans. The 20-year-old was replaced by Aymeric Laporte, who returns to the national team after rejoining Athletic Bilbao.

🩺 Injury Details

Huijsen arrived at Spain’s training camp with muscle fatigue and did not train. Medical tests confirmed a soleus muscle injury in his left leg. Real Madrid released a statement confirming the diagnosis, but did not specify a recovery timeline.

Spanish media estimate a 10–12 day absence, meaning Huijsen will likely miss Madrid’s LaLiga clash with Getafe and could be a doubt for the Champions League match against Juventus on October 22.

🧱 Madrid’s Defensive Crisis

Huijsen’s injury adds to Madrid’s growing list of absentees, including Dani Carvajal, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Antonio Rüdiger, and Ferland Mendy. Xabi Alonso may be forced to deploy Fede Valverde or Aurélien Tchouaméni in defense again.

Spain, meanwhile, top Group E and face Georgia and Bulgaria in their next qualifiers. Laporte’s experience could prove vital as La Roja aim to secure their World Cup spot.
