Celtic Sign Kelechi Iheanacho on One-Year Deal

Celtic have bolstered their attacking options by signing Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho on a one-year contract, with an option for an additional year, following his release from Sevilla. The 28-year-old, who previously played under Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City, was secured as a free agent just after the Scottish transfer window closed on September 2, 2025, meeting the UEFA Europa League registration deadline.

Iheanacho, with 42 Premier League goals across 196 appearances, brings significant experience to Parkhead, replacing Adam Idah, who joined Swansea City for £7 million. Rodgers praised Iheanacho’s “great ability, athleticism, and work rate,” expressing confidence in his impact despite fan criticism over the club’s transfer activity. The signing aims to address Celtic’s attacking depth issues after recent disappointing results, including a Champions League exit and a goalless Old Firm draw.
