🧤 Onana’s Nightmare Debut: Costly Error Hands Trabzonspor Defeat

André Onana’s debut for Trabzonspor couldn’t have gone much worse. The Manchester United loanee gifted Fenerbahçe the winning goal in a tense 1-0 defeat, marking a rocky start to his Turkish Super Lig chapter.

Despite making eight saves and earning Man of the Match honors, Onana’s one major blunder overshadowed his performance. Just before halftime, he spilled a tame long-range shot from Fred, allowing Sebastian Szymanski and then Youssef En-Nesyri to pounce and score the decisive goal.

Trabzonspor were already down to 10 men after Okay Yokuslu was sent off for violent conduct in the 20th minute, making Onana’s mistake even more costly.

The Cameroonian keeper had hoped to reset his career after a turbulent spell at Manchester United, but this debut echoed the inconsistency that plagued his time at Old Trafford. Manager Rúben Amorim, who sanctioned the loan move, previously admitted Onana struggled with the pressure at United and needed a fresh start.

Trabzonspor faces Gaziantep next, where Onana will make his home debut—and hopes to silence the critics.
