In a significant move on the transfer deadline day, Ilkay Gündogan has completed his switch from Manchester City to Turkish giants Galatasaray on a free transfer, signing a two-year contract. The 34-year-old midfielder, who rejoined City in August 2024 after a stint with Barcelona, was an unused substitute in several of City’s early season matches, prompting his move to the Turkish Super Lig champions.
Galatasaray finalized the deal on September 2, 2025, to ensure Gündogan’s registration for the UEFA Champions League, with the Turkish transfer window open until September 12. This move sees Gündogan reunite with former City teammate Leroy Sané and join a star-studded squad featuring Victor Osimhen. Gündogan, a five-time Premier League winner and former Germany captain, brings immense experience to Galatasaray as they aim to defend their title and compete in Europe.
