Emiliano Martinez to Be Reintegrated into Aston Villa’s Squad

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is set to return to the starting lineup after being left out of their recent 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace amid transfer speculation. BBC Sport and The Mirror reported that Manchester United’s interest in the World Cup-winning Argentine fizzled out due to his age and £200,000-a-week wages, while Martinez also rejected a £21.6m move to Galatasaray.

Manager Unai Emery, who previously expressed uncertainty about Martinez’s future, now plans to reintegrate the 32-year-old, who signed a contract extension until 2029 last year. Despite past tensions, including Martinez’s frustration over a lack of recognition post-2022 World Cup, his leadership and 531 Premier League saves make him vital for Villa’s ambitions. Fans on X are relieved, with many calling Martinez the “heart” of Villa’s squad.
