Chelsea Injury Update: Badiashile & Lavia Return to Training

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has received a significant double injury boost ahead of the Blues’ return to Premier League action this weekend.

The Italian tactician, who has overseen a promising start to his tenure at Stamford Bridge, confirmed in today’s press conference that both Christopher Nkunku and Romeo Lavia have returned to full training and are available for selection against Southampton on Saturday.

Nkunku, who has been sidelined for three weeks with a hamstring issue, participated in full training sessions during the international break. The French forward’s return provides a timely offensive boost for Chelsea, who have scored just four goals in their opening four league fixtures.

“Christopher has worked very hard with our medical team and is now ready to help the team,” Maresca stated. “We have been cautious with his recovery because we don’t want to risk further problems, but he has looked sharp in training and gives us another important option in attack.”

Perhaps even more significant is the return of midfielder Romeo Lavia, who has struggled with persistent fitness issues since his £58 million move from Southampton last summer. The Belgian international has made just seven appearances for Chelsea due to various injury setbacks but now appears ready to stake his claim for a regular starting position.

“Romeo is a player with exceptional qualities that we haven’t been able to utilize consistently,” Maresca explained. “Having him available transforms our midfield options and gives us different tactical possibilities. He has been impressive in training, but we will manage his minutes carefully.”

The double boost comes at a crucial time for Chelsea, who face a congested fixture schedule with Premier League, Champions League, and League Cup commitments on the horizon.

Team captain Reece James, who himself has recently returned from injury, welcomed the news: “It’s massive for us to have these guys back. Christopher brings goals and creativity, while Romeo gives us that physical presence and technical ability in midfield that we’ve been missing. The squad is looking strong now.”
