Speculation is swirling around Ruben Amorim, currently under pressure at Manchester United, after Benfica presidential candidate Joao Noronha Lopes expressed interest in bringing him back to Lisbon.
Lopes, along with Pedro Ferreira and Nuno Gomes, attended United’s 3–0 loss to Manchester City at the Etihad. While Lopes denied meeting Amorim, he made his intentions clear:
“Ruben is under contract with Manchester United, and I don’t comment on their results. But one thing I know Ruben Amorim will be the coach of Benfica one day.”
Amorim, who played over 150 games for Benfica, is enduring United’s worst start in 33 years. With Lopes favored to win the October 25 election, Amorim’s future could hinge on the outcome.
