Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Jesus will miss the Champions League opener against Athletic Bilbao. Saka, recovering from a hamstring injury sustained against Leeds, is unlikely to feature in Sunday’s Premier League clash with Manchester City, despite pushing for a quick return.
Arteta said:
“It’s very early to understand when and which week he’s going to be available. But he will certainly be pushing to be available as quickly as possible”.
With Odegaard also sidelined due to a recurring shoulder issue, Arteta may turn to Eberechi Eze, Mikel Merino, or Ethan Nwaneri to fill the creative void. On the opposing side, Athletic will be without Nico Williams, who recently signed a 10-year extension and is out with an adductor injury.
