Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has confirmed that his relationship with club owner Evangelos Marinakis has “changed”—fueling speculation that the Portuguese coach could be on the verge of an early-season exit.
Despite guiding Forest to a surprise seventh-place finish last season and securing Europa League qualification, Nuno’s recent public comments have revealed a breakdown in trust behind the scenes. “Last season we were very close and spoke on a daily basis,” Nuno said. “This season, it is not so well. Our relationship has changed and we are not as close”.
Sources suggest the tension stems from Nuno’s frustration with the club’s summer transfer business. Forest spent over £90 million on attacking reinforcements including James McAtee, Omari Hutchinson, and Arnaud Kalimuendo, but Nuno has repeatedly warned that the squad remains “unbalanced” and “very far” from where it needs to be2.
Marinakis, known for his hands-on approach, is reportedly evaluating alternative coaching options, with Ange Postecoglou and Jose Mourinho linked as potential successors.
Nuno’s blunt assessment—“It is not good. I think everybody at the club should be together but this is not the reality”—has only intensified speculation that his days at the City Ground may be numbered.
With Forest set to face Crystal Palace this weekend, all eyes will be on the touchline—and the boardroom.
