Tottenham Shift Focus to Nkunku After Eberechi Eze Snub

Tottenham Hotspur have turned their attention to Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku following a disappointing setback in their pursuit of Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze. Reports indicate that Spurs were on the brink of securing Eze, with a £67.5 million deal in advanced stages, only for Arsenal to hijack the transfer with a late move, reportedly agreeing to a fee close to £68 million.
The North London rivals’ intervention has left Tottenham scrambling to reinforce their attacking options as the transfer window nears its close on September 1, 2025.Eze, a 27-year-old England international, had been a top target for manager Thomas Frank to fill the creative void left by James Maddison’s season-ending ACL injury. However, the midfielder’s preference for Arsenal, fueled by his boyhood allegiance and the Gunners’ timely offer, has forced Spurs to pivot. Sources suggest Tottenham are now exploring a move for Nkunku, who has struggled for game time at Chelsea since his £60 million transfer from RB Leipzig in 2023 but remains a versatile and proven goal-scorer.
The 27-year-old Frenchman, capable of playing across the front line, notched 14 goals last season despite limited starts, making him an attractive alternative.
Tottenham’s interest comes amid reports of Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig also vying for Nkunku, though Chelsea’s reluctance to sell to a Premier League rival could complicate negotiations. Spurs’ recent £50 million signing of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham underscores their ambition to bolster their attack, and Nkunku could be the next piece in that puzzle.
With the transfer window deadline looming, Tottenham face pressure to act swiftly. Manager Thomas Frank has yet to comment directly on the Nkunku link, but the club’s pursuit of alternatives highlights their determination to strengthen the squad for the upcoming Champions League campaign. Fans will be watching closely as Spurs aim to avoid another transfer market disappointment.
