Rúben Amorim Signals Player Exits at Manchester United as Some Seek New Challenges

Manchester United head coach Rúben Amorim has confirmed that several players in his squad are looking to leave the club in search of new opportunities, as he continues his efforts to reshape the team for the 2025-26 Premier League season.
Speaking ahead of United’s match against Fulham, Amorim was candid about the situation, stating, “I think again, I know that is not a good thing to have players in this situation, but it’s clear they want to play in a different club and that is clear. So we try to arrange everything for both parts to be happy.”
The Portuguese manager, who took over at Old Trafford in November 2024 following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal, has been ruthless in his approach to squad management. Players such as Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia have been excluded from first-team activities and told to train separately, with Amorim indicating they are surplus to requirements.
Marcus Rashford has already secured a loan move to Barcelona, while Real Betis are keen on re-signing Antony after his successful loan spell last season, and Juventus have shown interest in Sancho, pending their ability to offload players. Garnacho, described by Amorim as a “really talented boy,” has been linked with multiple clubs, with the manager noting, “It’s clear he wants a different thing with a different leadership.”
Amorim’s hardline stance is part of his broader mission to overhaul the culture at Manchester United, which he believes has been lacking. He has introduced strict rules on training intensity and timekeeping, emphasizing accountability and a collective mentality.
“We have new rules,” Amorim said. “If you don’t train in the right way, I have footage to show you in front of everybody.” Supported by a new leadership group including Bruno Fernandes, Lisandro Martínez, Harry Maguire, Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui, and Tom Heaton, Amorim is focused on building a squad committed to his vision.
Despite a challenging first season, which saw United finish 15th in the Premier League and lose the Europa League final to Tottenham, Amorim remains confident in his long-term project. With new signings like Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Diego Leon already integrated, and potential interest in a striker and holding midfielder, United are poised for a busy end to the transfer window.
However, Amorim has warned rival clubs that United won’t let their unwanted players go cheaply, stating, “If they don’t reach that [valuation], they will be Manchester United players, no doubt about that.” As United prepare for their next Premier League fixture, Amorim’s focus is clear: prioritize players committed to the club’s future while facilitating exits for those seeking new challenges. With the transfer window closing soon, the coming days will be crucial in determining the final shape of his squad.
