Mbappé Penalty Hands Madrid Winning Start in LaLiga

Kylian Mbappé kicked off his second season at Real Madrid with a decisive strike, converting a penalty to secure a 1–0 win over Osasuna in their LaLiga opener.

The French forward, now wearing the iconic No. 10 shirt, was fouled by Juan Cruz early in the second half and calmly slotted home the spot-kick to give new manager Xabi Alonso a victorious debut at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Madrid dominated possession—over 70%—but struggled to break down Osasuna’s compact defense. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen, and Álvaro Carreras all made their league debuts, while 18-year-old Franco Mastantuono came off the bench to a warm reception.

Despite limited chances, Madrid controlled the tempo and rarely looked threatened. Osasuna’s Abel Bretones was sent off in stoppage time, sealing a frustrating night for the visitors.

Alonso praised Mbappé’s leadership and hunger: “You can see his desire every day. Today he created those decisive moments that enable us to win matches.”
