As Newcastle United prepare for their Premier League opener, the cloud hanging over Alexander Isak’s future refuses to lift. Manager Eddie Howe has addressed the situation again—and the answer is clear: nothing has changed.
Isak, who has been training away from the first team, remains adamant about securing a move to Liverpool, following Newcastle’s rejection of a £110 million bid. Howe confirmed that the striker will not feature in the match against Aston Villa and admitted the saga has been a “distraction” during pre-season.
“He’s not here today, we’re without him, and we’re adapting to that,” Howe told TNT Sports. “There is no change to the situation. All my focus has been on training, Villa, and the transfer front.”
Despite Howe’s desire to reintegrate Isak, the Swedish international has reportedly gone as far as moving out of his Newcastle home and training with Real Sociedad to force the issue. The club remains firm: Isak will only be sold if a massive offer arrives and a replacement is secured—a tall order given their failed pursuits of Benjamin Šeško and others.
Howe’s tone remains diplomatic but firm. He wants Isak to train and play but acknowledges that the final decision lies beyond his control. “I’ve had those conversations with him, but the details need to remain private,” he said.
With the transfer window closing on September 1, time is running out. Whether Isak stays or goes, Newcastle must find a way to move forward—with or without their star striker.
