Nottingham Forest have agreed a deal to sign Manchester City midfielder James McAtee, marking a significant step in their summer rebuild. The move comes amid mounting pressure on manager Nuno EspÃrito Santo, who recently admitted the squad is “very, very far” from where it needs to be ahead of the Premier League opener.
McAtee, 22, impressed during his loan spell at Sheffield United last season, showcasing creativity, composure, and a knack for unlocking defenses. Forest’s midfield has lacked consistency, and McAtee’s arrival could inject much-needed dynamism and technical quality.
The deal is seen as a strategic win for Forest, who are also in talks for Rennes striker Arnaud Kalimuendo and Ipswich’s Omari Hutchinson. With Nuno calling out the club’s lack of preparation, McAtee’s signing may be the first of several urgent reinforcements.
Forest fans will be hoping the young playmaker can hit the ground running and help stabilize a squad that’s been anything but settled.
