Elche CF Nears Loan Deal for Manchester United’s Tyrell Malacia

La Liga side Elche CF is reportedly closing in on a loan deal for Manchester United’s out-of-favor left-back Tyrell Malacia, according to sources close to the transfer market. The 26-year-old Dutch defender, who joined United from Feyenoord in 2022 for £12.9 million, has struggled to secure a regular spot under manager Ruben Amorim and is part of the club’s so-called “bomb squad” of players deemed surplus to requirements.
Malacia, who missed the entire 2023-24 season due to a knee injury requiring multiple surgeries, has made just 47 appearances for the Red Devils. His recent loan spell at PSV Eindhoven during the second half of the 2024-25 season saw him win an Eredivisie title, but PSV opted against a permanent move. Elche, however, sees the versatile full-back as a key addition to bolster their defensive options for the 2025-26 La Liga campaign.
Negotiations between Elche and Manchester United are progressing positively, with Malacia reportedly enthusiastic about the move after receiving assurances of a prominent role. Other clubs, including AS Roma, Lille, and Celtic, had shown interest, but Elche’s proactive approach has put them in pole position.
The deal may include an option to extend Malacia’s contract, which runs until June 2026, by an additional year to protect United’s investment. With the transfer window nearing its close, Elche is working diligently to finalize the agreement before the deadline. This move could provide Malacia with the opportunity to revive his career after a challenging stint at Old Trafford marred by injuries and inconsistent form.
