Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has boldly declared that the current squad is the strongest he’s had since taking charge in 2019, following a transformative summer that saw the Gunners spend over £250 million.
Speaking ahead of their weekend fixture, Arteta couldn’t hide his excitement: “In terms of numbers and quality, yes for sure,” he said. “We all have big smiles on our faces with the understanding that we have done really well.”
The imminent arrival of Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace for £67.5 million marks Arsenal’s seventh signing of the window, adding depth and flair to an already stacked midfield. With fierce competition across every position, Arteta believes this squad is built not just to challenge but to win.
Reflecting on last season’s shortcomings, Arteta emphasized the importance of squad depth: “With the squad we had last year, we made life very, very difficult for ourselves. If you look at the size and depth of other squads and the resources they had, we had to learn.”
Despite the optimism, Arteta remains cautious. “The market is not closed, and we have to stay very alert because there are a lot of things that can happen still.”
Arsenal fans will be hoping this confidence translates into silverware, especially after back-to-back second-place finishes in the Premier League and a heartbreaking Champions League semi-final exit to PSG.
