Brentford manager Keith Andrews has confirmed that Yoane Wissa was left out of the squad for their Premier League clash against Aston Villa, citing ongoing transfer speculation and squad focus as the reasons.
“It’s not right to involve him in the squad,” Andrews told reporters. “The team is the focus, and I felt that was the right thing to do.”
Wissa, 28, has been heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United, who recently had a £35 million bid rejected. The Congolese forward has not featured in either of Brentford’s opening fixtures this season and was seen training away from the main group earlier this month.
Despite returning to full training this week, Andrews opted to prioritize squad cohesion over individual circumstances. “He’s a Brentford player right now, and my stance hasn’t changed—I don’t want him to leave,” he added.
With the transfer window closing soon, Wissa’s future remains uncertain. Brentford fans will be watching closely to see whether the club holds firm or cashes in on one of their most dynamic attackers.
