Amorim: Defensive Mentality Cost Man United Against Fulham

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has blamed his team’s defensive mindset for their failure to secure all three points in Sunday’s 1–1 draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

United took the lead through a Rodrigo Muniz own goal but quickly lost control of the match. Fulham substitute Emile Smith Rowe equalized just 93 seconds after coming on, exposing United’s vulnerability and lack of composure.

“We scored the goal, and then we forgot about how we play,” Amorim told the BBC. “Everyone was thinking, ‘Let’s hold onto the advantage,’ but that’s the moment we should push the opponent.”

Amorim also criticized the team’s high pressing after the goal, which left large gaps for Fulham to exploit. “We tried to press super high and left a lot of space. We have to grow up a lot as a team,” he added.

Bruno Fernandes missed a crucial first-half penalty, his fifth miss since debuting in the Premier League. Amorim acknowledged the psychological impact: “He knows the importance of that moment. He wasn’t happy during the game because he wasn’t involved.”

Despite trailing league leaders Arsenal by five points, Amorim remains optimistic. “We just want to win games. I’m confident we’ll get many wins,” he said.
