Girona FC have officially signed Spanish left-back Alex Moreno from Aston Villa on a free transfer, marking the club’s fifth summer arrival as they look to rebuild after a disappointing 2024–25 campaign.
Moreno, 32, returns to LaLiga after two seasons in the Premier League, including a loan spell at Nottingham Forest last year, where he helped the side qualify for Europe. The former Real Betis defender made 48 appearances for Villa, scoring three goals and providing three assists.
Despite having a year left on his contract, Moreno agreed to terminate his deal with Villa to facilitate the move. He’s signed a two-year contract with Girona, keeping him at the club until June 2027.
Girona endured a tough season, finishing 16th in LaLiga and crashing out of the Champions League in the group stage. Moreno’s arrival adds experience, pace, and attacking flair to Michel’s side, which has already brought in Hugo Rincon, Axel Witsel, Vitor Reis, and Thomas Lemar.
Villa, meanwhile, continue to trim their squad, with Moreno joining Jacob Ramsey, Leander Dendoncker, and Leon Bailey as summer departures.
Moreno is expected to make his debut this weekend against Villarreal.
