Amorim could be appointed when?

Additional information from Kaveh Solhekol, chief reporter for Sky Sports News:

Amorim and others have been on United's radar for a very long time because you don't fire your manager until you have a replacement.

"I believe that in order for them to make this change this week, they must have had some indication that he was ready to quit Sporting.

He might be in charge of Sunday's match against Chelsea if United and Sporting can reach a compensation agreement.

Why Man Utd are in talks with Amorim

Kaveh Solhekol, chief correspondent for Sky Sports News:

"Amorim was connected to the positions at West Ham and Liverpool, and there are even rumors that he would manage Manchester City in the future.

"At the moment, he is among the most sought-after young coaches in Europe. The fascination is not limited to United.

"He has a release clause in his contract, which is one of the obstacles preventing this transfer from being completed.

"United will need to spend €10 million (£8.3 million) to acquire him, whereas Sporting had to pay a large release clause to acquire him in the first place.

There are rumors that United will have to pay Erik ten Hag around £15 million in order to comply with PSR regulations and pay him off.

Therefore, United would have to pay to hire Amorim in addition to firing Ten Hag.

Although his style of play is appealing, some critics contend that his accomplishments in Portuguese football have been made in a relatively short amount of time.

"The Portuguese league is not on the same level as other leagues in Europe, with all due respect. However, Amorim appears to have the potential to become the next great Portuguese manager.
